Bridger Ski Foundation

BSF Alpine Youth Ski League (YSL)

Welcome Parents and Athletes to the 2010 Bridger Ski Foundation's Youth Ski League (YSL) Season!

We have already had a great start to our ski season and YSL has yet to begin! There is plenty of snow at Bridger Bowl and we anticipate an incredible season.

Here is some valuable information for the first days of the YSL program for 2010. YSL begins this Saturday and Sunday, January 9th and 10th. The program runs for 8 consecutive weeks, unless weather becomes an issue. If we miss a day or two, we will make it up on the tail end of the scheduled season. The BSF hot-line will be updated frequently, so if it's below zero degrees, check the hot-line for information (587-2445). We will most likely cancel YSL if the temperatures are that low.

On the first weekend, we ask that all parents and athletes please sign in with us between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Registration is located in the upstairs cafeteria of the Jim Bridger Lodge. Please do not go directly to the lift. Come check in with us first. This way we can make sure all of your registration and release forms are correct and complete and we can connect you with your coaches and give each athlete a name tag.

On ski days, please have your children fed (a warm, substantial breakfast is recommended) fully dressed, and ready for a full day of skiing. Appropriate ski clothing is important in Montana, so please have your child dressed in proper ski clothing and prepared for our variable weather. Please have each child bring a small back pack with a water bottle, extra set of gloves, neck gator, extra goggles if possible, sun block, extra layer of clothing, spare change in case of emergency, bagged, healthy, nutritious lunch, and a snack. (Snacks of apples, dried fruit, jerky, carrot sticks, nuts, granola, raisins, string cheese and some granola bars are great ways to go).

Additionally, if you could put chap stick, hand and toe warmers, Kleenex, etc., in your child's ski jacket pocket, this will help us take care of your child's needs. For safety purposes we require your child wear a helmet. Please let us know prior to ski day if you need help finding one, we will be glad to assist you. Backpacks will be taken up the Powder Park lift and dropped of outside in our team area by the timing shack at the top of Virginia City.

The daily schedule is as follows: After checking in (the first weekend), skiers will meet at the Powder Park lift area (coaches will usher kids to the gathering area). After everyone is grouped up, during the first portion of the ski day, all participants and coaches will ski together and then break for lunch between 11:00-11:30. Lunch is at the mid-mountain Deer Park lodge upstairs and coaches will supervise kids at lunch. Parents are welcome to join, but we ask that parents join the group upstairs rather than removing your child to downstairs, as we all like to eat together. This is a great time to bond as a team and to get to know each other better.

After lunch, we will break into smaller, more homogeneous ski groups and ski for the afternoon. Your children will be released from the program at 2:00 p.m. slope-side outside of Jim Bridger Lodge. If parents are not present to pick up children upon release, please make sure you communicate with Kate or one of the other coaches to let them know exactly where you will meet them after we release them.

The following weeks of the program, YSL coaches will meet with their group at 8:45 am at the Powder Park quad. The remainder of the day, we will follow the same schedule as outlined above.

We have an awesome season to look forward to and ton's of Safety, Fun, and Learning for all YSL athletes!!!
