Development of technical ski racing skills to the racers' fullest potential while incorporating the characteristics of good sportsmanship, is the Alpine program's overriding philosophy. BSF Alpine offers three programs: Development (DEVO) team, J-Fast team, and the Alpine Youth Ski Leage (YSL).
For the young athlete just beginning a racing career there is the J-Fast program. This program is designed for advanced skiers who have previosly participated in the BSF Alpine Youth Ski League (YSL) or a comparable program for at least one year. J-Fast places its emphasis on developing race techniques by skiing difficult terrain and conditions, and working on drills in and out of gates.

For athletes who are driven to further their racing careers, there is the BSF Alpine Development (DEVO) team. This program provides physical training starting in the fall to help prevent injuries and to allow for optimum performance. On snow training, which begins as soon as resorts are open, concentrates on a blend of free skiing, drills, and gates. Technique (how to ski) and tactics (where to ski) are taught in tandem.
Depending on age and ability, Development and J-Fast team members have the opportunity to compete in USSA Northern Division races held at Bridger Bowl and other ski areas located across Montana and Wyoming. YSL racers who are ready to move up to the next level will also be invited to compete in USSA races upon recommendation by the Alpine YSL Director.
It is important to note that BSF Alpine has consistently produced athletes who compete at the National and International levels, including former U.S. ski team members Jeff Olsen, Travis Svensrud, NCAA Champion and current MSU Head Coach Dan Brelsford, professional road bicycle racer Levi Leipheimer, and more recently Clayton Krueger and Eric Haferman.
From beginning racers to international level competitors, the BSF Alpine program provides training to help each individual improve and promotes a positive, quality sport experience.
More details on the BSF Alpine program can be found in the BSF Alpine Handbook (click here to download).
