Dr. Hannie loved music and played a mean trumpet in the American Legion Band as well Cathedral High Band, SLI Band, and Rotary Band. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and adored his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin Castille's SOUTHSIDE Lafayette location on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Dr. Hannie was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the Optimist Club, where his love of model airplanes led him to organize the Optimist Club Model Airplane Tournament. He was chairman of this event and was an avid participant and winner from 1953 1960. He served as 1st Vice President, Program Chairman and in 1955 was President of the Optimist Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph George and Saida Saloom Hannie; one brother, Dr. George Hannie; and three sisters, Margaret Hannie Haik, Mary Helen Hannie Pharo, Mary Agnes Hannie Joseph.

Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Abby, Ashlee, Nicolas, Alexander and Kelsey Hannie. Antoine.

A special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Retirement Community, caregiver "Lady", and Beth Anders, whom was Dr. Hannie's friend and secretary for years.

A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Dr Hannie graduated from Cathedral Carmel High School in 1934, where he was active as an alter boy and active in Scouting attaining the level of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1942, and was Vice President of his Pharmacy school senior class. He worked as a Pharmacist at Brooks General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas 1947 48. He then went on to the University of Texas where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from University of Texas. He did his post graduate work at the University of Alabama and the University of Michigan, where he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ella Broussard Hannie; four sons, Edward J. Hannie II and his wife Shadon Biggs of Tyler, TX, Maurice E. Hannie and his wife Joyce Landry of Lafayette, Nicol E. Hannie and his wife Heidi Guidry of Lafayette, and Raymond E. Hannie of Lafayette; grandchildren, Kali Roberts, Krislyn, Stefan, Kelsey, Abby, Ashlee, Lacey, Nicolas and Alexander Hannie and Hailey and Lacey Walters; two great grandchildren, Jayce and Brenna Roberts; two sisters, Jasmine Tanory and Evelyn Hannie; and his former wife and mother of his four sons, Jeannette Deraney of Lafayette; and "Lady" Jane Ben and Dr. Hannie's loyal friend and secretary for 24 years.

Dr. Hannie was a local business man in the Lafayette Community, a Real Estate Developer as owner of Hannie Enterprise and an avid USL (Now ULL) Rajun Cajun Fan. Dr. Hannie was Executive Vice President of American Discount Corporation, member of the Greater Lafayette Apartment, member of the White House Council on Aging Advisory Committee for Council on Aging, President of River Place Retirement Center, President of Oakwood Nurse Care Center, Past President of the Lafayette Apartment Association and Chairman Adidas Sweatshirt Stranger Things

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Dr. Edward Joseph Hannie, age 88, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at his residence at Rosewood Retirement Community in Lafayette.

Because of his love for Scouts, Dr. Hannie Adidas Sweatshirt Womens White served as a Master of Troop 22 for three years at Cathedral High. He also organized a Scout troop in Sapporo, Japan when he was stationed there during the Korean War.

Dr. Hannie practiced dentistry for 57 years, and retired in 2004. The first 12 years of his practice of Dentistry he devoted to children's dentistry, then went into general dentistry and before retirement limited his practice to dentures only. During his lengthy career Dr. Hannie served as President of the Louisiana Society of Dentistry of Children in 1964, Secretary treasurer of the Lafayette Dental Association, founder and President of the Lafayette Parish Cleft Palate Team, Staff member of the Lafayette General and Our lady of Lourdes Medical Centers. He was the first dentist in Louisiana to be named Adidas Hoodie Yellow Stripes

a Fellow of General Dentistry. He was a member of the Louisiana Dental Association and American Dental Association, member of the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry and served as Chairman of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. In 1962 he became a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, was also the first member of the American College of Prosthodontists in Acadiana.

War II as a Pharmacist. After World War II, he remained in the Army Reserve and was called back to active duty from 1950 1952 as a Dentist in Korea during the Korean War. During the Korean War he was a Captain in the Dental Corp while serving in the 45th "Thunderbird" Infantry Division, 120th Medical Battalion as head of the dental clinic in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service, National Defense Service, United Nations and Army of Occupation medals. He also served in Japan during the Korean War. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 and spent 9 months in Japan.
